Abstract :

The paper entitled ‘integrating mental health to HIV counseling and testing’ is a literature review focusing on two countries experience (India and Ethiopia) while its application seems valuable globally that has to be augmented by intensive study. It treats counseling services employed by countries and revealed that the sole responsible body assumed relevant were/are health institutions. But, the ongoing efforts done by one group seems not effective which enforce professionals to recommend the following: Advocacy and education has to be given for all the community through all possible community service giving agents; nevertheless awareness raising of the advocators has to get attention; HIV Care and Treatment manuals and trainings for the HCT counselors has to be carried out by health workers, psychologists and other relevant experts who have impact on the counseling; Counseling manuals has to be revised and incorporate social, cultural, and psychological aspects of an individual who comes to HCT center.
