Abstract :

Medicinal plants are gaining importance in the perspective of modern medicine. Individual parts of the medicinal plant have distinct characteristics. Medicinal plants have no side effects when used for the treatment of specific disorders. Aegle marmelos and Cressa cretica are two medicinal plants. Staphylococcus aureus is a Gram positive organism. The present study focuses on the significant effects of Aegle marmelos (Bael) and Cressa cretica (Rudanti) extracts against Staphylococcus aureus . The antibacterial effects of these plants were studied individually and in combination with each other. The parts of the plant that were used were leaves and fruits of Bael and Rudanti in powdered form. Initially, the extracts of the above plant parts were subjected to phytochemical screening and then the effects of these plant extracts were studied using Agar well diffusion assay. Zones of inhibition of different treatment groups were measured and compared. Statistical comparison of individual extract and combined extract was seen. It was found that effects of combined extracts or were greater as compared to individual extracts.
