Abstract :

W hile most pediatric toxic exposures are usually benign, there are in fact many significant exceptions in young children. The rapidly advancing pharmacological landscape with new and highly potent medications and changing social landscapes have important implications in the epidemiology of toxic exposures in young children. This lecture reviews evidence-based updates on pediatric toxicology and interesting observations on pediatric toxicology based on available published literature.

Biography :

Gene Ong has completed his specialist pediatric medicine training in Singapore and did his fellowship in pediatric emergency medicine in BC children's Hospital, Vancouver, Canada. He has special interest in pediatric toxicology, resuscitation and pediatric disaster medicine. He is a member of the Ministry of Health (Singapore) Clinical Practice Guidelines Development Committee for Acute Poisonings, Toxicology Society of Singapore, Asia Pacific Association of Medical Toxicology, Hazmat Life Medical Support Course Scientific Committee and is on the editorial team of the Journal of Clinical Toxicology. He is actively involved in university teaching and is part of the core faculty of the ACGME in emergency medicine for pediatric emergency and toxicology. He is a also a clinical instructor in resuscitation and simulation courses such as ATLS, ACLS, HazMat Basic Medical Support Course, Emergency Airway Management Course, WINFOCUS basic provider course, Advanced Resuscitation in Children Course, Pediatric Resuscitation and Emergency Simulation Training Course and Toxicology Emergency Simulation Training Course
