Abstract :

This comprehensive review offers basic knowledge on cardiac lymphatics. It reveals little known detail of heart anatomy-lymphatic nature of conduction tissue. It discusses sequels of intraoperative lymphatics damage in cardiothoracic surgery. Fontan procedure, Rastelli procedure, Tetralogy of Fallot repair, CABG, heart transplant all associate with total or partial disruption of cardiac lymph outflow. In some cases, adjustment of surgical technique with preservation of lymphatic outflow (aortic fat pad) should reduce incidence of new postoperative arrhythmias and improve patient��?s outcome.
