Hidradenitis Suppuritiva

Hidradenitis Suppuritiva is a chronic skin condition in which lumps form in places such as the armpits, groin, buttocks etc. The lumps usually form where skin rubs together. The skin lesions occur as a result of inflammation and infection of sweat glands. The condition features pea- to marble-sized lumps under the skin that can be painful and are likely to enlarge and drain pus.. Medication, corticosteroid injections and sometimes surgery can help manage symptoms. Hidradenitis suppurativa is a long-term skin disease characterized by the occurrence of inflamed and swollen lumps. These are typically painful and break open, releasing fluid or pus. The areas most commonly affected are the underarms, under the breasts and groin. Scar tissue remains after healing. Self-consciousness or depression may result. The exact cause is usually unclear but believed to involve a combination of genetic and environmental factors. About a third of people with the disease have an affected family member.
