Immunodermatology is not merely a subspecialty concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of immune-mediated skin disorders rather, it serves as a powerful illustration of how advances in basic science can revolutionize clinical practice. The skin is often viewed as a protective barrier that shields the body from environmental threats. However, contemporary research has revealed that it is also an active immunological organ containing a sophisticated network of immune cells, signaling molecules, and defense mechanisms. This realization has significantly altered the traditional perception of dermatology. Conditions such as psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, vitiligo, pemphigus vulgaris, bullous pemphigoid, and lupus erythematosus are now understood through the lens of immune dysregulation. Such insights have expanded the scope of dermatological research and opened new pathways for precision medicine.
One of the most remarkable achievements of immunodermatology is its contribution to understanding autoimmune and inflammatory skin diseases.
