During the past years, cancer has evolved to be the monster that the health professionals are finding arduous to handle. The epidemiologists have shown an overall incline in cancer patients worldwide however developed countries showed a higher number. Indeed efforts have to been to control the beast by improving sanitation, vaccination and antibiotics.
Thus far, very little is known about the etiology of cancer and how to prevent it. Nevertheless, a number of risk factors have been identified. Risk factors such as genetic factors, premalignant lesions, predisposing diseases and exogen factors have been associated to the cancer. Genetic susceptibility observed in some cases includes inherited syndromes and familial cancers. Moreover, conditions such as a mix between genetic factors and environmental factors have been recognize as risk factors but the exact etiopathogenesis remains unknown.
Much of the grim prognosis of cancer can be attributed to our ignorance of clear risk factors, of premalignant states and of its tumor biology. The fact that most of the cancers are diagnosed at an incurable stage of the disease highlights the need to determine risk factors and to understand their contribution to carcinogenesis.
Cancer was bought to limelight due to its high mortality rate, thus the urgency to know the enemy is fundamental. Efficacious measures are further required to control cancer along with new insights.
