Mammalian fertilization is escorted through oscillations in egg cytoplasmic Ca2+ concentrations that are dangerous for completion of egg activation. These oscillations are introduced by Ca2+ release from inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate (IP3) sensitive intracellular supplies.
