Biography

Prof. Gheita is a professor of Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology at Kasr Al-Ainy School of Medicine, Cairo University. He is a distinguished Rheumatology consultant at many worldwide hospitals with Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation. He has authored 100+ publications in top ranked international journals; coeditor of 10+ scientific books internationally published mostly in the field of Rheumatology; supervised on and discussed 25+ MD and MSc theses and was acknowledged by many of his colleagues for his guidance and help in their work. Has shared in a big data Sjögren’s syndrome project: EULAR-SS Task Force International Network (2015) and actively participated in 100+ regional and international conferences and is considered a notable speaker. Prof. Gheita is head of the rheumatology department’s committee for postgraduate studies syllabuses and a member of many specialized societies in the field of Rheumatology, Immunology, Osteoporosis and Orthopedics. He is Treasurer of the Egyptian Society of Rheumatic Diseases since 2011 which is the largest and finest of its kind in the Middle East and Africa; represents Egypt as an EMerging EULAR NETwork (EMEUNET) member and is also member of the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF), Nyon, Switzerland. Since 2008, Prof. Gheita is a Cairo University Faculty of Medicine control member for postgraduate exams.

He is a member of the Committee On Publication Ethics (COPE), member of the Eastern Mediterranean Association of Medical Editors (EMAME), member of the Asian Council of Science Editors (ACSE), Editor in-Chief of the Egyptian Rheumatologist (Elsevier), Editorial Board Member of 25 International Journals (as the International J of Rheumatic Diseases, European J of Rheumatology, Annals of Pediatric Rheumatology, African J of Rheumatology) and is on the review board of 70+ international journals in the field of Medicine, Rheumatology, Clinical Immunology and Pharmacology and reviewed the 6th edition of ‘Rheumatology’ and 7th edition of ‘Pediatric Rheumatology’ textbooks Elsevier. He shared in the scientific and organizing committee of several regional and international conferences. Attended and successfully passed the courses held by Faculty and Leadership Development center Program (FLDP), Cairo University recognized by the International Board of Certified Trainers (IBCT), The Netherlands. He holds the Platinum BMJ learning high-usage certificate, for successfully accomplishing rheumatology modules. He has acceptable computer skills (ICDL, UNESCO, USA, 2009).

Certificates of excellence were awarded for his effort in endorsing the practice of Rheumatology in regional countries, for his outstanding performance on attending many medical convoys to underprivileged communities and for sharing in lectures for junior MOH physicians all over Egypt. Prof. Gheita served with honor as a member of the medical technical committee establishing the children’s cancer hospital (57357) in Cairo (2005-2006). Professor Gheita studied and attended his school in London, UK. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University (December 1993) (Excellent with grade of Honors), attained the M.Sc degree (1997) with an excellent grade and successfully received his MD degree (2003). He is an active Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology Professor since 2013. He is a certified EULAR rheumatologist and successfully passed the 2 year Rheumatology course international exam held by the EULAR; Zürich, Switzerland.
