Biography

Dr. Priyadarshi Mahapatra has received his Ph.D in Chemical & Biological Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, NY, USA, with the Dissertation: Modeling & Simulation for Predictive Control of Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) power plants: Developed a detailed plant-wide dynamic system to understand inherent limitations on the current operability characteristics of IGCC power plants; Plantwide control structure based on PID and MPC approaches and various design configurations - inventory layer, supervisory layer (decentralized, centralized) - was developed and compared to study performance/computational-cost effects. The dynamic models were developed in Aspen Plus/Dynamics and were interfaced with Matlab/Simulink for control and optimization studies. (Aug 06 – Jul 10). He has done his M.Tech. in Chemical Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, INDIA, Thesis: Modeling surfactant microstructure and phase behavior in Dianionic Systems, validated using initial lab derived data (Small-Angle X-Ray Scattering, Cryo TEM, DSC etc.). Shell-core Matlab derived models were used to predict microstructure shapes, structure, and properties at different anion concentrations. Minor Project: 2D to 3D Matlab surface profile evolution simulations along different surface morphologies for nano-structured thin films (predominantly used in semiconductor industry) during physical vapor deposition. (July 04 – July 06) B.Tech in Chemical Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, INDIA, Research Projects: Prediction of VLE Data for Refrigerant Mixtures using rigorous thermodynamic modeling and calculations (Jul 99 – May 03).
