He is currently the Lockheed Martin Assistant professor of Industrial Engineering and Management Systems Department at the University of Central Florida and director of the Advanced Industrial Engineering Computing (AIELab) Lab. He holds a PhD and MSc from the Industrial and Systems Engineering Department, University of Florida and a Dipl. Eng. from the Technical University of Crete, Greece. His expertise lies in the areas of data mining, optimization and operations research. He has co-authored one book on robust data mining and several other volumes on the theory and applications of data mining in biomedicine. His research work has been published in top research journals of IEEE, Springer, Elsevier and Wiley & Sons. Dr. Xanthopoulos currently serves as associate editor for several journals including the springer journal "Optimization Letters". In the past he has served as reviewer for National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE). He has also served as reviewer for several peer reviewed publications and currently is a member of society for the Institute for Operations Research and Management Science (INFORMS), the Institute for Industrial Engineering (IIE), the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) and the society of Neuroeconomics.
