Biography

Dr. M. Nia Madison is a STEM advocate, science consultant, medical writer and Assistant Professor of Microbiology at Miami Dade College in Homestead, FL. She received her PhD in Biomedical Sciences from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, TN. She completed her postdoctoral training in Infectious Diseases at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, IA with a focus on the role of biofluid exosomes in inhibition of HIV infection. She has a wide range of research interests including retrovirology, parasitology, microbiology and immunology. Her research has focused on 1) elucidating mechanisms behind host restriction of HIV-1 infectivity and transmission and 2) discovery and development of small molecule and biological clinical candidates for antiretroviral biotherapeutic strategies. Her research has been supported by the NIH, Merck pharmaceuticals / UNCF and L’Oréal / AAAS / UNESCO and published in a number of peer-reviewed journals including Virology, Retrovirology, AIDS Research and Human Retroviruses, Infection and Immunity and Frontiers in Biosciences.

Research Interest

Dr. M. Nia Madison, PhD has a wide range of research interests including retrovirology, parasitology, microbiology and immunology. Her research currently focuses on 1) elucidating mechanisms behind host restriction of HIV-1 infectivity and transmission and 2) discovery and development of small molecule and biological clinical candidates for antiretroviral biotherapeutic strategies.
