Dr. Lei Pei completed her PhD at the Division of Clinical Bacteriology, Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, Sweden. She did her first postdoc at the Division of Infectious Diseases, Department of Medicine, Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School, Boston MA USA. Subsequently, she completed her second postdoc at the Flanders Institute for Biotechnology (VIB), Department of Molecular Biology, Ghent University, Belgium. Since 2009 she has worked on synthetic biology in the Organization for International Dialogue and Conflict Management.
Particularly interested in technical assessments, biosafety and biosecurity, and risk management of synthetic biology applications in environment, healthcare and sustainable development. Her recent work also includes reviewing regulatory frameworks for synthetic biology and ethical opinions toward this emerging technology.
