Fei Zhao

Biography

Dr. Zhao is a Postdoctoral fellow in Duke University, department of Medicine division of Medical Oncology. He received his doctorate in Pharmacology and Toxicology from the University of Arizona, where he conducted molecular toxicology studies of arsenic mediated malignant transformation and energy metabolism disruption in a human lung epithelial model. He found that chronic exposure of environmental relative concentrations of arsenic can induce the Warburg Effect in human bronchial epithelial cells, which ultimately leads to malignancy. In 2014, Dr. Zhao joined Duke University as a postdoctoral associate to study energy metabolism in melanoma microenvironment. He is the first author or co-author of 11 peer-reviewed articles and a reviewer for Toxicology Sciences and PLOS ONE. Dr. Zhao has won the 2010 and 2011 Superfund Research Program Training Grant, the 2012 Mountain West Society of Toxicology Predoctoral Student Poster Presentation Award 1st Place, the 2013 Society of Toxicology AACT Charles River Best Abstract Award 2nd place, and served as the 2013 Society of Toxicology Arsenic Poster Session Chairperson.
