Dimitrios N Bikiaris is an Associate Professor of Polymer Chemistry and Technology in the Department of Chemistry at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. He has a large research experience in the field of Polymer Chemistry and Technology, in synthesis of new biocompatible polymers and their applications as drug delivery carriers. He has co-authored more than 170 publications in peer-reviewed journals and more than 128 in conference proceedings and 4 chapters in international books. He has served as reviewer in 70 scientific journals. He is the co-inventor of 12 international patents. His current research focuses on the synthesis of new biocompatible aliphatic polyesters and their applications for drug nanoencapsulation and the preparation of drug solid dispersions.
His research focuses on synthesis of new biocompatible polymers, study of polymer blends, derivatization of natural polymers (starch, chitosan), polymer composites and nano-composites, application of polymers as excipients for pharmaceutical uses, drug delivery systems, investigation of nanoparticles as effective drug carriers.
