Biography

Dara Schuster is a graduate of The University of Kentucky School of Medicine. She completed residency in a combined Internal Medicine and Pediatrics Program 1988-1992 and fellowship in Adult and Pediatric Endocrinology 1992-1996 at The Ohio State University. She has been on faculty since 1996 and became an Associate Professor of Medicine and Pediatrics in 2002. Dr. Schuster’s research interests include 1characterization of racial differences in glucose homeostasis in pediatric and adult subjects at risk for the development of type 2 diabetes mellitus, 2changes in glucose metabolism in response to exercise training, and 3obesity and changes in glucose regulation in response to bariatric surgery and weight loss in adults and children. Dr. Schuster has been active in education and mentoring of students, residents and fellows. She is the advisor for endocrinology fellows, Ph.D. candidates in human nutrition and in exercise physiology. Dr. Schuster has been active in committee work within The Ohio State University Hospital System and currently sits on 10 active committees and is the Director of the Clinical Diabetes Program at The Ohio State University. In 2008, Dr. Schuster became the Associate Medical Director for Chronic Disease Program development, The Ohio State University Hospitals. In this role, Dr. Schuster oversees development and implementation of evidence-based practice policy for the hospital system.

Research Interest

Characterization of racial differences in glucose homeostasis in pediatric and adult subjects at risk for the development of type 2 diabetes mellitus, changes in glucose metabolism in response to exercise training and obesity and changes in glucose regulation in response to bariatric surgery and weight loss in adults and children.
