Dr. Chao Jiang received his BS and MS in chemistry from University of Science and Technology of China in 2004. He obtained his PhD in organic chemistry from University of Rochester in 2009 with Prof. Alison J. Frontier. His Ph.D. research involved the methodology development towards stereoselective pyrrolidine synthesis using heterogeneous catalytic hydrogenation and total synthesis of Tetrapetalone A. Then he moved to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and worked as a postdoctoral research associate in Prof. M. Christina White′s group since then. His projects involve the collaboration with Pfizer Inc. and focus on the application of C-H activation/oxidation methods to medicinal interesting targets which would allow high-speed synthesis for drug discovery and screening. The goal is to solve the difficulty in applying the C-H oxidation chemistry in N-containing compounds such as peptides, alkaloids, heterocycles.
His research interests focus on synthetic methodology development, total synthesis of natural product, heterocyclic and peptide chemistry,  heterogeneous catalysis, metal-catalyzed reactions, C-H activation/oxidation.
