Dr Catarina Tomás is a Professor at the Nursing Sciences Department in School of Health Sciences of Polytechnic Institute of Leiria, Portugal. She is a nurse, specialized in mental health and psychiatry. For a number of years, Catarina has worked as a nurse in the field of alcohol and other drug treatment, at the General Directorate for Intervention on Addictive Behaviours and Dependencies (SICAD), in Portugal. She is a master in Mental Health and Psichiatric Nursing and her PhD was conducted at Abel Salazar Institute of Biomedical Sciences of Oporto University, where she studied Health literacy in adolescence. In 2015 she joined the Health Research Unit (UIS) of the School of Health Sciences of IPLeiria (ESSLei) as an effective member, where she colaborates in several studies, with focuses on Mental health and psychiatry and health education and intervention in chindren and adolescents.
Presently she has interest in research regarding Health literacy, Mental health Stigma, Mental Health and Psychiatry, health promotion and Risk behaviors. She is presently developing reserach in Mental Health stigma and health promotion to prevent risk behaviors in substance abuse in children and adolescents.
