  Coronary Artery Lesions in a Young Patient with Kawasaki Disease from Pacific Region

  Kawasaki disease is well known and widely prevalent acute febrile illness and systemic vasculitis of unknown aetiology that usually and predominantly afflicts children of younger age group usually below 5 years. Its coronary presentations are usually coronary artery aneurysms and can result in long-term cardiovascular sequelae. Kawasaki disease is the leading cause of acquired heart disease among children in the Pacific region. Sometimes coronary artery aneurysms developed in some untreated children with Kawasaki disease, might lead to ischaemic heart disease and myocardial infarction. Early treatment with Intravenous Immunoglobulin (IVIG) might reduce the risk of development of coronary artery aneurysms, several cases have been reported to have IVIG resistant Kawasaki disease and are at increased risk of developing coronary artery damage.
