Biography
Prof Karen Søgaard received her Ph.D. in Human Physiology from the August Krogh Institute, University of Copenhagen in 1994. Currently, she is working as Professor and Head of the research unit: Physical activity and health in working life at Institute of Sport Sciences and Clinical Biomechanics, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Southern Denmark, Odense, Denmark. Her competence is based on 25 years of research and investigation activities within work physiology, ergonomics and biomechanics. Her main focus is ergonomics and physical training for health promotion, prevention and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal disorders. Recently, time has been devoted to both clinical and occupational RCT studies. She is supervisor on 8 finished PhDs and currently supervise 15 PhD students (8 as main supervisor). Since 1993 she has published more then 130 papers in per reviewed International journals, more than 30 English chapters of textbooks and Danish reviewed reports or book chapters. Her papers have more than 2400 citations, an average citation of more than 18 per paper and an h-index of 29. She is serving as an editorial member of 3 journals, among those Journal of Electromyography and Kinesiology, and as reviewer for more than 20 journals including Muscle & Nerve, European Journal of Applied Physiology, Ergonomics and Applied Ergonomics. Karen Søgaard has served in Scientific evaluation commitees on numerous research positions (including professorships), grants, etc. nationally and internationally. She is currently member of ââ¬ÅResearch Council of the Danish Association of Rheumatismââ¬Â and appointed member of ââ¬ÅMinistry of Culture Research Committeeââ¬Â in Denmark. She has served as opponent for 17 PhDs (5 Danish and 12 international universities). She has been elected member of council of International Society of Biomechanics and currently is elected council member of International Society of Electromyography and Kinesiology and has served as organizer and co organizer for conferences and tracks within their conferences.
