Drug delivery has evolved from being viewed as a supporting component of pharmaceutical development to becoming one of the principal determinants of therapeutic success. While considerable attention is often directed toward the discovery of new drug molecules, the manner in which these molecules reach their intended biological targets can be equally important. A highly potent therapeutic agent may fail to produce the desired clinical outcome if it cannot be delivered efficiently, safely, or consistently. This reality has shifted scientific attention toward innovative drug delivery systems that maximize therapeutic benefits while minimizing adverse effects. As modern medicine moves toward personalized healthcare, advances in drug delivery are becoming indispensable for translating laboratory discoveries into meaningful clinical outcomes. Increasing numbers of biologics, peptides, nucleic acid therapeutics and gene based medicines have entered development pipelines. One notable trend is the growing emphasis on targeted drug delivery.
