Abstract

Numerical Analysis of Influence of Inward Dimples on Aerodynamic Characteristics of Symmetrical Airfoil Using CFD

Parthasarathy G*, Sibin Raj T, Vijeth CM

This project represents a comprehensive exploration into the design and numerical analysis of an aircraft wing using an inward dimple. Dimples are a small indentations on the surface that looks like a very small craters. Dimples on the airfoil surface delay the separation of the boundary layer and delays the separation of flow stage. Dimples also produce turbulence that results in the delay of separation of boundary layer and decreases the formation of wake. Due to dimples airfoil will have irregular surface, so that the detachment of the flow will be delayed that makes flow stick to the surface. The airfoil will comparatively have less pressure drag than the plain airfoil.
