Abstract

Introduction

Neostigmine is medicine that is given to the problems where the nerves in the eyes, throat, face are affected and cause pain also have trouble walking, talking, seeing. It is also given to the Urinary retention problems in order to treat the problems in urinary tract. If there is any blockage in the nerves functioning then neostigmine is given to treat the problem. Some of the symptoms include nausea, crampy abdominal pain, headaches etc. It has also side effects when taken in excess. Other side effects such as loss of blood, increase in the blood pressure. It is not properly mentioned anywhere if using it during pregnancy is safe to the baby or not. Neostigmine inhibits the breakdown of acetycholine within in the spinal cord. Acetycholine binds to muscarinic receptors, leading to a reduction in neurotransmitter release and subsequent analgesia. Roelants randomly assigned partutrients to receive their epidural rapivacaine alone or epidural neostigmine combined with rapivacaine with or without sufentanil.

Some medicines are not suitable for people with certain conditions, and sometimes medicines can only be used if extra care is taken. For these reasons, before you start taking neostigmine it is important that your doctor knows: If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, if you have asthma, if you a heart condition, such as a slow heart rate, or if you have recently had a heart attack, if you have a stomach ulcer, If you have any problem with the way your kidneys work, if you feel you may have a blockage in your intestines or if you have any difficulties passing urine, if you are taking or using any other medicines, if you ever had an allergic reaction to any other medicine.

Before taking the medicine read carefully the instructions given on the leaflet from inside the pack. It is enough to know about the neostigmine completely. Take neostigmine tablets just as prescribed by the physician. If you missed out on your dose take it when you remember but if it is nearly time to your next dose, then leave out the forgotten dose and take the next dose when it is due. Do not take two doses at a time to make up for a missed dose. It is likely that you will be prescribed other medicines to take alongside neostigmine. You may be prescribed an immunosuppressant or corticosteroid medicine to help control your muscle symptoms. You may also be prescribed tablets to reduce some unwanted effects from the neostigmine. This is because neostigmine interferes with some medicines during surgery. If you are having an operation or dental treatment, tell the person carrying out the treatment that you are taking neostigmine. This is important because neostigmine interferes with some medicines used during surgery. Neostigmine for myasthenia gravis: Myasthenia gravis is a condition where your muscles become easily tired and weak. There is a fault in the way nerve messages are passed from your nerves to your muscles. As a consequence, your muscles are not stimulated properly, so do not tighten well. The muscles around the eyes are commonly affected first. This is an autoimmune disease. This means that the fault is due to a problem with your immune system. Your immune system mistakenly attacks itself.
