Abstract

Evidence Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for the Management of Depression and Anxiety

Benjamin Collins*

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is one of the most extensively researched psychological interventions for the treatment of depression, anxiety and related mental health conditions. Developed through the integration of cognitive and behavioral theories, CBT is founded on the principle that thoughts, emotions and behaviors are interconnected and continuously influence one another. Rather than focusing exclusively on past experiences, this therapeutic approach emphasizes identifying present maladaptive thinking patterns and replacing them with healthier cognitive and behavioral responses. Owing to its structured, goal oriented and time limited nature, CBT has become a cornerstone of evidence based mental healthcare across diverse clinical settings. The theoretical framework of CBT proposes that individuals do not respond solely to external events but rather to their interpretation of those events.
