It is a science which helps in promoting the health status of the country by changing the food nutrition system. It focuses on the issue of the dietary needs of the population. Public health nutrition is the science and art of preventing disease, prolonging life and promoting health through the medium of nutrition. The aim of those working as public health nutritionists is for everyone to achieve greater health and well-being by making healthier food and nutrition-related choices.
According to World Health Organisation, Public health refers to all organized measures (whether public or private) to prevent disease, promote health, and prolong life among the population as a whole. Its activities aim to provide conditions in which people can be healthy and focus on entire populations, not on individual patients or diseases. Thus, public health is concerned with the total system and not only the eradication of a particular disease.
