Lupus is a chronic inflammatory disease that occurs when the body's immune system attacks own tissues and organs and can damage any part of the body. Lupus is also a disease of flares and remissions.
There are many kinds of lupus, the most common type is systemic lupus erythematosus (affects many parts of the body) and other types of lupus are Discoid lupus erythematosus, Subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus, Drug-induced lupus, Neonatal lupus. There is no single test to diagnose lupus. It may take months or years to diagnose lupus.
