Biography

Dr Xochitl Dominguez-Benetton received her Doctor of Science degree by the Mexican Petroleum Institute in 2008. Her thesis received a honorific mention by the Mexican Society of Electrochemistry. Currently she is working as Research Scientist at the Flemish Institute for Technological Research. Previously she worked as Research Engineer at the National Polytechnic of Toulouse, France, and as Research Professor at the Autonomous University of Yucatan, Mexico. Her current research focuses mainly on the (bio)electrochemical recovery of critical metals and metalloids, as well as in electrochemical engineering contributions for a vast number of applications ranging from microbial electrochemical systems to semi-solid redox flow batteries. She has authored more than 30 research articles in prestigious Journals such as Chemical Society Reviews, and Electrochimica Acta, among others. She is also co-author in several patents/patent applications in the domain of (bio)electrochemical engineering. She is a member of the International Society of Microbial Electrochemical Technologies (ISMET) as well as member of the International Society of Electrochemistry (ISE), and member of the Global Network of Mexican Talents Abroad (RTM / RedGlobalMX).

Research Interest

Her current research focuses mainly on the (bio)electrochemical recovery of critical metals and metalloids, as well as in electrochemical engineering contributions for a vast number of applications ranging from microbial electrochemical systems to semi-solid redox flow batteries.
