Abstract:

Anodontia is a congenital condition distinguished by the absence of multiple teeth. This is usually seen in connection with a larger genetic disorder, rather than on its own as an individual medical issue. Treatments usually involve prosthetics to restore function and appearance to the mouth. The following definitions are used: ?hypodontia? is defined as the absence of 1 to 5 permanent teeth, while the term ?oligodontia? refers to the absence of 6 or more permanent teeth and ?anodontia? refers to the absence of all permanent teeth. Oligodontia, the absence of 6 or more teeth, is a much rarer disorder; the incidence rate suggested by Schalk van der Weide is 0. 08% of the population. Anodontia is encountered in an even smaller percentage of patients. This is eight year follow up study of the case. The patient was missing all the lateral incisors, all second premolars and second lower right molar, allowing a general collapse of the occlusion and loss of vertical dimension. At the beginning of procedure, the patient was 18 years of age, with absence of an alveolar ridge and ridge resorption. It was not possible to achieve full rehabilitation because the patient was not proper candidate for neither implant supported solution or orthodontic therapy. This is why the rehabilitation has to undergone two stages. The first stage was enlargement of vertical dimension and reshaping of the front teeth, using bonding dentistry. Four years later, the full mouth reconstruction had to be performed

Biography :

Maja Radunovic has completed her PhD from Belgrade University, Republic of Serbia. Dr Maja is Associate Professor and Head of Department for Dental materials at School of Dentistry, in Pancevo, Republic of Serbia. Dr. Maja Radunovic is frequently visiting United States and attending regular eminent conferences on the subject of esthetic dentistry in Washington D. C. , New York and Boston. In Germany, Dr. Maja completed training for CAD/CAM technology. Dr. Maja is also coowner of Dental Clinic, Dental studio Djordjevic/Mitic, in Belgrade and one of cofounders of Serbian Academy of Esthetic Dentistry. Dr Maja has published more than 20 articles and papers at international dental meetings, as well as publishing textbooks for postgraduate studies.
