Abstract:

The explosion in size of the elderly population throughout the world�??s developing countries is phenomenal. Discoveries in medical science and improved living conditions during past few decades have increased the life span. With the advancement in medical health care technology, the life expectancy of general population has increased. As a result, there is proportionate increase in geriatric population with increase dental health care demands. With advancement in age, tendency to reach towards the state of edentulousness increases, which results in compromised nutritional intake and related quality of life of geriatric population. Geriatric dental prosthetic needs evaluation differs from a standard medical evaluation as it focuses on elderly individuals with complex problems, emphasizes functional status and improvement in the quality of life. The Geriatric Oral Health Assessment Index is an aid which shows the impact on the dimensions of life quality of the elderly population. This presentation discusses oral health care needs and oral health assessment in geriatric population.

Biography :

Manu Rathee is presently working as Senior Professor & Head of Department, Prosthodontics at Post Graduate Institute of Dental Sciences, Rohtak. She completed her BDS in 1996 and won medals during graduation. She did her MDS in 2001 and DNB in 2004. Currently, she is the Member, Executive Council for Indian Prosthodontic Society. She actively participates in National and International conferences including IPS conferences and convention as invited Keynote Speaker, Guest lectures and Chairing sessions for more than a decade. She has presented numerous papers at national and international conferences. She has participated in over 100 conferences. She is a Chairperson for Board of Post Graduate Studies, Health University, Haryana. She is a Member of National Academy of Medical Sciences, Fellow of the International College of Dentists and Pierre Fauchard Academy. She is the Vice President, IDA Haryana, President, IDA Rohtak and Founder Member, Women’s Dental Council, IDA. She has more than 80 publications in various esteemed and peer reviewed national and international journals.
