Abstract:

The field of endodontics is undergoing a continuous evolution in terms of materials and techniques yet, when one evaluates the current status of clinical endodontics as a healing profession, one is stuck by the vast differences in how endodontics is understood and practiced from country to country, city to city and office to office. These differences are related to different belief systems, which have led to legendary controversies. There is ongoing debate on working length, patency files, whether to treat a case in single or multiple visits, whether a failing case should be retreated non-surgically, surgically or extracted. The unresolved controversies perpetuate clinical breakdown and decrease success rates. This poster brings to light some of these disagreements and stresses on the basic point that every case is different, both clinical experience and long term follow up are required before forming beliefs on the core issues.
