Abstract :

The rhizome powder of an Indian herb (presently coded as CS0361) mostly available in the eastern Indian states including Assam, is widely used as folkloric anti-diabetic medicine. The anti-diabetic activity of the plant material has been confirmed in animal models. In the present study CS0361 has been tested for its anti-hyperglycemic effect on type 2 diabetic subjects. A single blind clinical trial was conducted on 30 subjects. Rhizome powder (4g) in warm water was given twice daily 30 mins before meal for 9 weeks. Blood glucose was measured by glucose-oxidase method and HbA1c was measured by ion exchange chromatography.
