Assistant Professor, Molecular Microscopy Research Group/SMB, Zernike Institute for Advanced Materials
University of Groningen, Netherlands
Thorben Cordes studied chemistry at TU Braunschweig (Germany) and the University College Cork (Ireland). He obtained his PhD in physics in the field of time-resolved spectroscopy from LMU München (Germany) in 2008. As a postdoc he worked at LMU München (Germany) and the University of Oxford (UK) on single-molecule fluorescence spectroscopy, super-resolution microscopy and single-molecule FRET. He currently is an Assistant Professor of Super-resolution Microscopy at the University of Groningen. His research group is embedded into the Zernike Institute for Advanced Materials and the Centre for Synthetic Biology.
His main research interests are the developments of novel single-molecule and super-resolution microscopy tools including their application to (bio) chemical questions. Current research projects deal with probe development, mechanistic questions of membrane transport and organometallic catalysis.
