Dr. R. M. G. Rajapakse have 31 years of continuous service at the Department of Chemistry, where he taught 26 years (excluding 5 years of study leave from 1985 to 1991). His specialty is in the broad areas of Physical Chemistry and Nanotechnology. He have taught almost all course units in Physical Chemistry in different years, but his main teaching modules are Basic Electrochemistry, Advanced Electrochemistry, Chemical Kinetics, Catalysis, Basic Polymer Chemistry, Advanced Polymer Chemistry, and Industrial Chemistry: Elementary Chemical Engineering, Chemical Technology, Physical Chemistry Laboratory and Advanced Physical Chemistry Laboratory.
Dr. R. M. G. Rajapakse's current research is Conversion of Dolomite to Value-added Nanomaterials, Conversion of Eppawala Natural Impure Fluoro-chloro-hydroxy-Apatite to Pure Hydroxyapatite Nanoparticles to make Prostheses Biocompatible and Osteointegrating, Custom-made Prostheses for Orthopaedic Transplants, Dye-sensitized Solar Cells, Perovskite-sensitized Solar Cells, Graphene from Sri Lankan Graphite, Solar Silicon from Sri Lankan Quartz, Low-cost Oxygen Reduction Catalysts for Fuel Cell Applications, Efficient Water Splitting Catalysts, Advanced and Intelligent Textiles, Hollow Nanoparticle-encapsulated Drugs for Targeted Delivery and for Slow-release, Electronically conducting Polymers.
