Justice and Development Mode of Governance in Turkey: a Role Model for Religious Parties of Pakistan

The emergence of the Justice and Development Party has shown that Muslim politics in Turkey is growing from an instrumentalist usage of Islam to a new understanding of practicing Muslims who deal with daily politics. Under its rule since 2002 the transition of modern Turkey from secularism to Islamism under Justice and Development Party is a very comprehensive political change in modern era and presenting a positive and workable role model for other Muslim states to bring reforms for durable peace, stability and prosperity. Justice and Development Party have entirely changed the Turkish system since taking power in 2002. It is indeed a flourishing example viewing that political participation and the opportunities provided to the Islamist parties can engender political change, resulting in the transformation of Islamism. This party has successfully initiated religious, economic, social, political, institutional and regarding foreign policy in order to make Turkey being a model of state propagated by Islam. Turkey has managed all the successive stages in this process very well and peacefully. Therefore it can be proved a model for other Muslim states trying to bring revivalism in their states and government according to the rules of Islamic law. The core focus of this dissertation is to investigate the method of reforms of AKP in Turkey founded on the guiding principles of Islam and how Pakistan can take benefits from it being a role model to reform its system. The Justice and Development Party in Turkey have broken the traditional legacy of Mustafa Kamal Ataturk. It has brought tremendous reforms in different sectors like education, social status of women, economic, religious, and political and foreign policy. It has tried to give due status to military’s role in politics. It has also redefined the role of religion in politics to address governance issues. These governance reforms are a model for the leadership in Pakistan.
