Abstract

Repercussion of Climate Change: The Nepalese Perspective

Meen B Poudyal Chhetri

Climate change has become a very serious global concern because of its adverse effects on livelihood and environment. Glaciers are receding rapidly in the Himalayan region which constitutes a major source of water channeling through nine of the largest rivers in Asia serving more than 1.3 billion people. In the same way, in Africa, South Pacific, Arctic, North America, South America, Europe, and Antarctica also glaciers are receding. Hence, glacial retreat is the most obvious evidence of climate change, which is a scientific reality. Nepal is at 4th position among the most at risk countries due to climate change (World Bank: 2011). Hence, climate change is not just an environmental phenomenon but also an economic, social, and political issue in Nepal.
