Abstract

Determination of some Heavy Metals in Nile Tilapia (oreochromis niloticus) Fish Species in the Water of Lake Hawassa: Review

Wakessa Miheretu Bedassa

Heavy metals are of much environmental concern currently. The metals are brought into contact with the organs and tissues of the fish and consequently accumulated to a different extent in different organs and tissues of the fish. These metals are dangerous as they tend to bioaccumulate in the food chain and they can be harmful to human and animals.Nitric acid, HNO3 (69%), and hydrogen peroxide, H2O2 (30%), were used for digestion.Concentration of Cu, Pb, Ni and Zn were determined in water and fish samples. The analyses of metals in water and fish samples were carried out by both; furnace atomic absorption spectrometry and flame atomic absorption spectrometry.
