Abstract

Accompaniment of women in perinatal bereavement in the region of Settat in Morocco

Azzeddine Khawla

In order to carry out a study on the experience of perinatal mourning by women and to evaluate their support by caregivers, a transversal study was conducted on 2 populations: 80 women with history of perinatal loss, and 26 health staff. Through this study, it was found that women develop a set of both psychological and physical reactions such as shock, sadness, crying, anger, as well as sleep and appetite disorders. Most women want to be emotional support, based on religiousness, listening, understanding, empathy and respect. The health staff providing this support encounters difficulties (lack of staff, workload, and lack of training) and mentions the need for staff training and specialized support for women.
